Cycle Action members get discounts at the CAN shop...

Biker

Cycle Action members are members of CAN, NZ's national voice for cycling.

Join us!

 Imagine an Auckland where:

  • Cycling is a viable first choice for commuting and recreational trips
  • Our roads are safe, free-flowing and pleasant for all road users, especially the most vulnerable
  • Our air is sweet and clean to breathe
  • Our fit and healthy kids are cycling between home and school
  • Our neighbourhoods are safe and friendly
  • Our hospitals are not struggling treating diseases of inactivity
  • Our budgets are not constrained by the spiralling cost of oil.

Want to turn this into reality?  Be part of the solution and join us.  How?

Join as a FRIEND for FREE

If you share our vision, join as a Friend of Cycle Action.   It costs nothing, but it demonstrates to us and those to whom we make submissions that there are a large number of Aucklanders who support cycling.  There's no commitment, and you'll receive regular email newsletters to keep you up to date with what's happening.  Note that only the moderator can post to the Friends group - so you won't receive spam (though messages do contain a Yahoo advert at the bottom, which enables us to offer this service for free).

To join as a Friend of CAA, send a blank email to Friends_of_CAA-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.

Join as a MEMBER, and really make a DIFFERENCE

While it's great to have friends, we need financial MEMBERS so we can work faster!  For the price of a few flat whites a year, your subscription gives us a pool of funds for expertise and materials for short term projects, such as the GetAcross rally.

Why join?...

  • your financial support helps us to do more for you and all Auckland cyclists
  • as Cycle Action is a registered charity, you'll be able to claim your membership fee as a tax rebate
  • you'll get member discounts on CAN merchandise (e.g. the 'One Less Car' waterproof reflective backpack covers)
  • you'll be kept  up to date on Auckland cycling news with the Cycle Action Newsletter
  • get CAN's ChainLinks magazine and e.CAN email newsletter, with cycling news from around the country and overseas
  • you'll have the opportunity to get involved with our campaigns.

Annual membership fees...

Waged : $30
Unwaged : $15
Family: $35
Supporting organisation: $75

Donations
Donations are welcome and most gratefully accepted!  Remember your donation also qualifies for a tax rebate.

Cycle Action is affiliated to the Cycling Advocates' Network (CAN), so all Cycle Action members are also automatically members of CAN and receive full CAN member benefits.

Joining Cycle Action as a full member  is easy. You can pay by direct credit into our bank account: 38-9001-0980291-00 then email your details to our membership secretary.

Or, download our membership brochure (PDF file), print it and fill it out, and post it with your cheque.  Alternatively we can post you a membership brochure, email us with your name and address.

How else can you get involved?

Communicate
Write a letter to your local community paper or the Herald (e-mail: letters@nzherald.co.nz) on a cycling issue you're concerned about.  Be sure to end your letter on a positive note and proof read it before hitting the 'send' button!

Drop along to your local Community Board.  Tell them about  cycling activity in your area, how it would be great to get more people out of their cars to foster a greater sense of community, and the barriers that prevent this.  Talk to a Committee member for support information if needed.

Helping Out
Cycle Action is a voluntary organisation and we run on the smell of an oily (sweaty?) rag.  We always appreciate members who have time to help out with:

  • marketing Cycle Action to increase our membership
  • fund-raising to enable us to continue short term projects
  • submission writing and presenting to local authorities (eg: Councils, NZTA, MoT)
  • assistance with the key projects listed on our home page
Please e-mail Barb if you've got an interest in these roles.

Meetings
Come along  to a monthly meeting.  Find out more about what we get up to and see if you'd like to get more involved.
